Of all of my favorite healthy habits I plan to share with you all, I want to start with one of my favorites: hot lemon water! It’s all natural and easily accessible, and now I truly crave it every morning. There are many physical and mentally benefits, making it a great addition to anyone’s healthy morning routine!
We’re sure you have heard the importance of proper hydration, but we’re here to echo how important it is! Whether it is warm water with lemon or just a large glass in the morning, making drinking water in the morning a priority will make a difference in your health. So many body issues are linked to dehydration like fatigue, lack of focus, and hunger cravings.
In addition to getting hydrated first thing in the morning, lemons also give a great nutrient boost to kickstart your day! You get a ton of vitamin C, which helps keep our immune systems strong, as well as smaller amounts of potassium and folate. Adding lemon is a great way to add a little extra flavor and antioxidants without the added sugar that comes along with other sports and so-called “health” drinks.
Many of us struggle with poor digestion, and we understand how frustrating it can be. Our guts are pretty complex and finding the right balance of nutrition and probiotics for your own body is a personal journey, but something natural that helps us when we feel like our tummies need some help is hot lemon water – extra points if you are brave enough to add a shot of apple cider vinegar! We’ve noticed that drinking this on an empty stomach helps to kickstart our digestion for the day and helps us better digest our meals all day long.
Outside of physical benefits, we also notice how perfectly this warm, healthy drink complements a gratitude morning routine. We get our warm, comforting drink in hand, put our phones away, and spend some time to ourselves to have a moment of gratitude. Our lives can be so fast-paced nowadays that it is important to slow down and have moments to be thankful. Our gratitude moments can be a quick 5 minutes to reflect before our day starts, or we take some time to write out what we’re thankful for. Either way, you’ll feel recharged and in a good, grateful state of mind to start the day!
One of our favorite parts about this healthy habit is that it helps set the tone for the day. When we start the day with a healthy habit, it encourages us to keep implementing more healthy habits throughout the day. If we start the day sluggish and quickly drinking coffee for energy before running out the door, then we’re probably going to follow that chaotic path for the rest of the day. But, on the opposite side, if we take a few extra minutes to implement a healthy morning habit, then it is setting a healthy framework to follow for the rest of the day!
